COMPASS STARTER READING LOG

The Compass Reading Log has 9 topics with Big Questions as all the other logs. Each topic offers two long texts. The first part of each topic presents one variety of genre for a fiction text (plays, stories, etc) while the second offers a different genre of non fiction text such as informative, biographical, etc. Through the reading of these texts, students gain more exposure to language and information about the Big Question. After each text, there are two pages with activities to practice reading comprehension and teach a specific reading strategy based on the CCSS. In addition, in the Teacher s Guide, there are extra worksheets to expand the work with the texts. This Log aims at raising interest in readers between the ages of 6-12.
